An eerie take on Ogden Nash's
THE TERMITE
Being an idle product of our overactively investigative imagination
Mr. Nash...
"Some primal termite knocked on wood
And tasted it, and found it good!
And that is why your Cousin May
Fell through the parlor floor today."
And tasted it, and found it good!
And that is why your Cousin May
Fell through the parlor floor today."
M...
That's what they say
but I think the carpenter might have left his work midway
Can be termites too (They are so many and so ewwww)
but, then again, methinks may be good carpenters are so few
Me...
Or, my oh my, could it be,
may be cousin May was blessed horizontally
I don't want to be mean,
but you know what I mean...
I wouldn't bet the farm on it
(though I wouldn't doubt it a single bit)
But the floor creaked with its last breath,
as her sheer presence smother'd it to death
So mayhap the bug and the woodman go free,
and cannot be charged with murdering the dead tree
Even poor cousin May cannot be put to test,
for she only stood on it and gravity did the rest
For she has fallen through here before,
and fallen again and again ever more
In fact with fall of every dark night,
she comes to fall again to the same plight
But let me not imagine out of the way,
and go to the grave to ask poor May
Ask if she walked from six feet under again
Or was that creak just a fog of my brain
may be cousin May was blessed horizontally
I don't want to be mean,
but you know what I mean...

(though I wouldn't doubt it a single bit)
